BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
The electric power industry in Texas has changed significantly in the past 20 years and NRG Energy continues to be a major competitor. NRG owns and operates a diverse power generation portfolio in Texas including fossil fueled generation as well as renewable generation serving many industries and retail customers.
SPEAKER'S BIOGRAPHY:
Steve Hedge is the General Manager of the WA Parish Electric Generating Station located southwest of Houston, TX and owned by NRG Energy. The WA Parish station is one of the largest fossil-fueled plants in the U.S. consisting of four coal-fueled units with 2507 MW capacity, 6 gas-fueled units with 1238 MW capacity and the world's largest post-combustion carbon capture project installed on one of the coal fueled units. Steve has worked for NRG predecessor companies in various engineering, maintenance, operations and management positions since 1985. Steve has worked at several stations in Texas and Louisiana with various power generation technologies including combustion and steam turbine units. Steve is a past chairman of the ASME South Texas Gas Turbine Technical Chapter and holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston.
