Gumdrops and the Funny Uncle
The show was created to offer a way for those who might identify alternatively with the idea of belonging, being of multiple families or celebrating families of choice. Conceived of by Peter DiMuro, "Funny Uncle" was originally created as a touring project for Liz Lerman Dance Exchange.
All of us have the potential to feel we are "outside" the norm and the holidays can often intensify feelings of inclusion and exclusion. Building on a series of workshops he offered ,"Coming Out for Straight People and Their Friends", Peter believed there was strength in the process of active belonging, of choosing one's circle , that could also be a learning and questioning tool among others who feel other.
Presented during the WINTER WONDER DANCE FESTIVAL, this year's performance of Gumdrops and the Funny Uncle will feature Peter DiMuro's Public Displays of Motion, in collaboration with The Theater Offensive and The School for Classical Ballet. Guest spots by: Megan Bascom & Dancers, David Parker & The Bang Group, and Yosi Karahashi's Youth/Family Flamenco troupe. The December 30th show will include repertory from WINTER WONDER teaching artists.
*NOTE: Pre-purchased tickets will be held up until 15 minutes before the start of the performance. After this point, seats may be released.
