Ntrinsik Movement presents: UBUNTU: I AM WHO I AM BECAUSE OF WHO WE ALL ARE.
Ntrinsik Movement is an emerging Brooklyn based dance company. The name "Ntrinsik" is taken from the word "Intrinsic" meaning "movement that comes from within." This company was founded in the summer of 2014 and consists of five dancers. Ntrinsik has performed in various theaters such as Symphony Space, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, Frank Sinatra Theater and several others, as guest performers and/or emerging choreographers.
UBUNTU features choreography from each member of Ntrinsik Movement, which will be performed by the full company and a few guest dancers. This concert will also showcase a group of young pre-professional dancers from the New York area, who have worked with some members of Ntrinsik in various public schools, and dance studios.
This program, filled with riveting Afro-Modern and Contemporary movement, will reflect various concepts such as the empowerment of African American women, the idea of struggle and its relation to the community and oneself, and the journey to become free from those daily struggles in hopes of reaching an enlightened form of thinking. According to the African philosophy, UBUNTU, we receive an understanding of ourselves in relation with the world based on our interactions with each other. Therefore each dancer, unique in his/her own story, connects through the movement and discovers who he/she is as a person because of who they all are as a community.
