Singer/songwriter/accordionist/novelist Geoff Berner's music combines klezmer (for the uninitiated, the folk music of Eastern European Jews), punk, political satire, and Balkan dance rhythms. He writes sharp, literate songs that make you want to weep, laugh, grind your teeth, or kick out a window often all at the same time. A lot of famous people have covered his compositions. Look it up. He headlines this spectacular night of entertainment at Fremont Theater.
Gideon Freudmann opens the show. He is a composer, performer and cello innovator who uses technology to sample, loop and layer tracks in real time, creating music that is complex and nuanced. His music has been featured on NPR, This American Life and he was a TEDtalk speaker. He is a founding member of the Portland Cello Project and recently released his 19th CD. Gideon composes music for theatre, film and dance.
