Weathering the Weather: Trees in Winter
On a brisk walk followed by a cozy fire, learn how our trees make it through the winter. Director of Land and Facilities Steve Goin leads a walk through the cold forest, explaining how trees respond to snow and ice storms and to freezing temperatures. For example, trees make a type of anti-freeze to prevent water within their cells from freezing; at the same time, frozen water between trees cells can help strengthen trees against ice storms and heavy winds. After the walk, enjoy a Schuylkill Old Fashioned, our special tree-based cocktail, around a fire.
