2017 Quill Award Gala
2017 Quill Award Gala: Tickets now available!
Even though he didnt know most folks personally, newspaperman Mike OBrien visited with thousands of Ozarkers for 40 years. His words, spoken through newsprint as a reporter, editor and columnist, made a lasting impression on Springfields papers and the people who read them.
His influence, however, isnt limited to any newsroom. It also lives through the journalists he influenced during more than 25 years spent teaching at Missouri State University and Drury University before retiring in 2013.
In honor of this legacy, OBrien will be inducted into the Writers Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 8. The ceremony, which includes a cocktail hour, silent auction, dinner and an award presentation, begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at Highland Springs Country Club (5400 Highland Springs Blvd., Springfield). Tickets are $35, and all gifts and proceeds fund college scholarships for local aspiring writers.
The purpose of Writers Hall of Fame is to encourage, inspire and celebrate the joy of writing. Proceeds from this special event are used to fund scholarships for graduating high school seniors so that they may pursue their interests in various writing professions.
