SALVE REGINA
A unique concert in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of Our Lady of Charity as patroness of Cuba, and on the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de La Caridad del Cobre in Santiago de Cuba (interior of the Basílica pictured above). Marian devotion in Cuba dates back to 1612 and it can be arguably said that most Cubans, regardless of their faith and across all social classes, feel devotion for Cachita, as she is affectionately called. Hence, we have appropriately chosen December 8th, Day of the Immaculate Conception, to present Marianist works by Cuban composers from the 19th century to the present, including Esteban Salas, Cratilio Guerra, José María Vitier, and Miguel Matamoros.
The concert will be under the artistic direction of the distinguished Cuban musicologist Miriam Escudero, and will feature an international cast of soloists, chorus singers, and musicians.
