the kates: university
the kates mission is to showcase talented and hilarious female identified performers by creating inclusive and positive environments; which encourages artists to express their comic point of view in unique and non-apologetic ways - proving that women are equal in the eyes of comedy.
During this seven week all female stand-up class, students will learn classic stand-up structure and joke writing skills along with performance and writing strategies. The class will culminate in a student graduation showcase.
Dates include: Tuesdays 7pm - 9pm January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st February 7th and 14th Graduation show date TBD
Classes will take place at CSz Chicago Training Center 956 W Newport Ave Chicago, IL
If you are looking to cross stand-up off your bucket list. This class is for you! If you are an improvisor who's looking to strengthen your point of view and get "off the back wall." This class is for you! If you are an artist who would like to get out of your comfort zone. This class is for you! If you are a professional writer looking for a different kind of editing skill. This class is for you! If you are terrified of public speaking or want to hone your presentation skills. This class is for you! If you identify as a female and want to take up more space in the world. Guess what, this class is for you!
the kates is a nine year all female comedy showcase created by Chicago comedian and stand-up instructor Kelsie Huff. Kelsie Huff is a Columbia College Chicago graduate turned stand-up and storyteller. She's the creator and host of the kates, a nine year comedy showcase, hosted by The Book Cellar and Laugh Factory Chicago. Kelsie performs at clubs all around the Midwest, as well as comedy and fringe festivals around the country. She is a regular guest of, host chat, on ABCs Windy City LIVE, as well as a guest on WGN radio. Huff has written four solo shows, is a short film producer, screenwriter and voice over actor. Huff is also a fan of frosting and Cheese Whiz.
Full refunds are available up to 72 hours before the first class commences. If you are unable to participate in class after registration and the 72 hour refund window has passed you may be able roll your registration over to the next session, if there is availability. All refunds and roll overs polices are subject to approval.
