Thanksgiving memories are precious. i remember the sounds, sights and smells that made one day a year so special to me as a child. The women of my family would cram into the kitchen, dividing up the million tasks that needed to be accomplished. The turkey would perfume the entire home, along with the sweet potatoes, dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. The men of my family would gather in the yard, standing around a big steamer full of oysters freshly plucked a mile or so away from us. Christmas carols were officially allowed, and their strains drifted into the dining room as our entire family crammed around a buckling table filled with the fruits of our labors. It was the one time we could all be together, and it meant the world to me. We're very excited to invite you to our table this holiday season, and to spread a bit of holiday cheer and love. We'll be serving up a full southern spread the evening before Thanksgiving, and it'll go something like this...
- sassafras sweet tea - our famous three-fat fried chicken - fried apples - green bean casserole with chanterelles - candied butternut squash with housemade marshmallows and sage - stoneground cornbread & sausage dressing - angel biscuits with sorghum butter & jam - creamed winter greens - roasted brussels sprouts and shallots with tomato cornmeal gravy - spiced cranberry sauce - mashed potatoes & chicken gravy - house-roasted coffee syllabub - Mae Lovelace's pecan tarts - sweet potato pie with buttermilk vanilla whipped cream
This dinner will be BYOB! Bring wine, sparkling juice, bourbon, beer, anything you want. We'll have plenty of mason jars, but you can feel free to bring your own stemware if you like. Supper will be family style, so we will be unable to accommodate any dietary restrictions. We'll be serving in the back room of Old Salt Marketplace at 7pm sharp. Please enter through the red door on the south side of the building.
We're so excited for this, and look forward to cooking for those of you who are as obsessed with Thanksgiving as we are, those of you who want to eat two Thanksgivings in a row, and those who wish to celebrate with a family of their own choosing.
Please email maya@maepdx.com if you'd like to be seated with another ticket buying party. We can't wait!
