Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
For the first show of their 52nd season, Nashua Theatre Guild presents "Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" by Ed Graczyk. The time is 1975 and the locale is a dusty Texas town nearby the site where Dean filmed his last movie, Giant. Members of the Disciples of James Dean are gathering in the local five and dime for a reunion on the 20th anniversary of their hero's death. Club president Mona, who clerked in the run-down store where the fan club gathers, has enjoyed a sort of celebrity status all these years as her (now teenage) son is alleged by her to be the illegitimate son of the late actor.
The ladies' congenial reminiscences mingle with flash backs to their youth; then the arrival of a stunning but familiar stranger sets off a series of confrontations that smash their delusions and expose bitter disappointments. Directed by Michael Coppola, "Jimmy Dean" is perfectly structured with its balance of comedy and tragedy as it shows the courage it takes to confront lies and denial.
Tickets are $15 for general admission. $12 for seniors. If purchasing your ticket online, the senior price difference will be refunded to you at the box office before the show.
