Patrick Wolff/Grant Stewart Quintet
Two of jazz's finest saxophone virtuosos, Grant Stewart and Patrick Wolff, join forces in an evening of classic bebop. Patrick Wolff is a mainstay of the San Francisco jazz scene, known for his work with the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra and Diana Gameros, and praised for his original music and explorations of overlooked jazz repertoire. Grant Stewart, hailing from New York City, is an international favorite of critics and musicians, admired for his powerful tone and deep swing, and respected for his dedication to the art and language of jazz. Stewart and Wolff, along with a masterfully vibrant trio of musicians, light up the night with dexterous and exhilarating renderings of the classic two-tenor groups. Join us to experience the time-honored compositions of the great Charles Mingus, Al Cohn, Freddie Redd, and Duke Ellington brought to life in a magnetic convergence of East and West Coast virtuosity.
"Grant Stewart is regarded as one of the most influential tenor sax players of the contemporary jazz scene"- allaboutjazz.com
"Grant is one of the most innovative young musicians still carrying on the tradition of jazz" - Lou Donaldson "The primary reason that Wolff's repertory concept works so well is that he's found a stellar cast of creative allies. The music feels lived in, like it's part of an ongoing conversation between widely read raconteurs... each tune is rife with idiosyncratic details that make it a welcome revelation."- Andrew Gilbert, San Jose Mercury News
