A Christmas Concert
Soli Deo Glorias popular Christmas concert returns! We are excited to kick off our ninth season with Salvator Mundi (Savior of the World) by 20th Century English composer William Mathias along with other festive Christmas music on Friday, December 9th at 7:30 pm at University Presbyterian Church. We have the privilege of adding a small chamber orchestra to this performance to accompany "Salvator Mundi" and "Gaudete".
The Women's Chorale will be performing music by Canadian composers Stephen Smith, Stephen Hatfield, Erica Phare-Bergh and Eleanor Daley, Norwegian/American Ola Gjeilo, and American David Conte. Enjoy familiar carols such as "I Saw three Ships Come Sailing, "Mary Did You Know?, Wassailin' and The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy. SDG also premieres "The Rose" by Fresno composer, Jordan DeLaSierra.
Guest Artists will be the Inspire 1 Girls' Ensemble directed by Licia Clark.
There will also be an audience sing-along of favorite carols!
Soli Deo Gloria is directed by Dr. Julie Carter. In addition to working with SDG, Dr. Carter is Director of Worship and Music at the First Presbyterian Church and leads the beloved Messiah Sing-along each November. She recently was guest conductor for the Fresno/Madera CMEA Honor Choir. Carter has taught music at Fresno Pacific University and CSUF. She is active as a soprano soloist and recently gave a recital at Fresno Pacific University as part of the Pacific Artist Series. She holds a doctorate from Arizona State University.
It seems appropriate to sing of the Savior of the World this Christmas as the world needs peace, love and joy more than ever. We would love to have you join us in making this our best concert yet!
Doors open at 6:45, and Dr. Carter will give a pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm. Join us!
Tickets are $15 Advance, $20 At the door, and $10 for Students.
