VOX 2 follows on from the success of a packed VOX 1and takes the themes of the series into a new direction featuring new works by resident composer Jamie Hamilton, avant grade cellist/songstress Laura Moody and Phaedra Vocalist Jamie Doe of Magic lantern and Gavin Bryar's iconic Jesus Blood
Vox is a new concert series from Phaedra Ensemble exploring the groundbreaking ways composers and musicians use text, sampling, spoken word, video and song to bring unheard voices and new possibilities to music. Set across three London venues VOX features new commissions from four eclectic, London-based composers including Neil Luck and cellist/songwriter Laura Moody, plus iconic works from Gavin Bryars, Michael Gordon and Frederic Rzewski, alongside recent works from the likes of Jennifer Walshe, Florent Ghys, The Magic Lantern and Leo Chadburn (aka Simon Bookish).
Founded in 2014, Phaedra Ensemble is built around a string quartet plus collaborators from across London's diverse musical landscape; incorporating jazz, folk, and contemporary classical musicians. Its members are drawn from London Contemporary Orchestra, F-IRE Collective, 12 Ensemble and Ligeti Quartet, amongst others. Previous performances include Kings Place, The Barbican, The Roundhouse and TEDx. They are resident ensemble with multi-sensory arts collective Bittersuite and recent collaborations include Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw and avant-pop musician Tanya Auclair.
