Soul Kitchen featuring Hillary Smith and Chris Dracup
Something of an Albuquerque and Santa Fe super group, Soul Kitchen features vocalist extraordinaire, Hillary Smith, winner of Alb the Magazine's 2007, 2008, 2009 "Best Vocalist" and whose CD, NO EASY WAY walked away with five 2009 NM Music Awards, including "Best of the Year."
Guitar hero Chris Dracup, also named "Best Musician" by Albuquerque the Magazine and winner of Local IQ's "Best Solo Act" is the driving force behind Albuquerque's Soul Kitchen.
Bassist Marcus Casman and drummer Mark Clark, both accomplished players and recording artists round out the New Mexico based band, voted Albuquerque's "Best Blues Group", 2010.
Soul Kitchen creates a dynamic blues-drenched sound that musically wanders somewhere between Saturday night revelry and Sunday morning redemption . . . both being captured on "Soul Sunday" September 16th at the Legal Tender.
Hillary Smith - Vocals
With a deep soulfulness rooted in the Gospel-driven churches of her youth, a classically trained vocal instrument that's a natural wonder and a God-given instinct for swinging a lyric, vocalist Hillary Smith has been electrifying audiences across the US for more than a quarter century. She's a belter, but her voice also possesses great warmth and expressiveness, and she is able to get under the skin of those in her audience.
Chris Dracup - Guitar
Chris Dracup, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, began performing at the age of sixteen in his hometown of Taos, NM. Since then he has been a singer and lead guitarist with some of New Mexico's favorite bands. Known for his stunning and soulful electric blues guitar, he works in a diverse range of musical styles. His acoustic guitar playing draws heavily from the blues tradition, an eclectic mix of Delta slide, country blues and jazz influences. His songwriting has garnered critical and popular acclaim and won him an enduring fan base.
