November 2016 Harold Rosenbaum Choral Conducting Institute Workshop
The final 2016 Harold Rosenbaum Choral Conducting Institute Workshop, open to conductors as well as observers, will be held at Nola Studios, 244 W. 54th St., 11th floor, studio D in New York, New York on Sunday, November 6th from 2 to 5 PM.
As an observer, you will have a unique opportunity to witness how Dr. Rosenbaum trains other conductors. As a conductor, this enlightening workshop will help you focus on establishing a standard and effective physical technique which includes proper posture, various styles most appropriate to the music at hand, different forms of cuing, expressive phrasing, effective use of the left arm, and much more. Specific works will be discussed with copies handed out for everyone to view. Participants can bring their own works and ask questions about how to handle problem spots. In addition, general choral concerns will be discussed.
Harold Rosenbaum is the only living choral conductor to have received the prestigious Ditson Award, bestowed annually since 1945 by Columbia University. Choral conductors Robert Shaw and Gregg Smith were the other choral conductors to receive it. Other conductor recipients include Leonard Bernstein, James Levine, Alan Gilbert, Robert Spano, Mstislav Rostropovich, Eugene Ormandy, Lukas Foss, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Leopold Stokowski.
