About RONDALLA A rondalla is an ensemble of stringed instruments that are played with a plectrum or pick. They originated in Spain but became most popular in Philippine folk music after their introduction to the islands during the 19th century. The major Philippine rondalla instruments are the banduria, the guitar, the octavina, the laud & the bass guitar or double bass. During the 1960s, rondallas were extremely popular in the Philippines, and they regularly competed with each other on television & radio programs. Rondalla groups based in other countries, including the United States, help keep the tradition alive.
About PFASI The Philippine Folk Arts Society, Inc. (PFASI) is a 501c(3) organization which aims to promote awareness and appreciation of Filipino culture, and contribute to enriching ethnic diversity by showcasing Philippine folk dances, Filipino music through its string ensemble "Rondalla" and language and arts workshops with "Eskuela Filipiniana".
