Involuntary Metamorphosis of Being
Esoteric Dance Project presents Involuntary Metamorphosis of Being crafted by Artistic Directors Christopher Tucker and Brenna Pierson-Tucker. Interjecting first-person interviews alongside the soundscape of the performance, EDP explores the nuances of emotion attached to a life-altering diagnosis. Involuntary Metamorphosis of Being runs Friday-Sunday at 7:00 pm, November 11th-13th. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. For more information visit: esotericdanceproject.com
Involuntary Metamorphosis of Being was designed to expose a more intimate understanding of everything that is truly felt when hearing those consequential words "You Have Cancer."
The motivation for not just this exploration but also for the birth of Esoteric Dance Project was Co-Artistic Directors Christopher Tuckers 2009 diagnosis and treatment for testicular cancer. Drawing from his first-hand knowledge and supplementing that with a years worth of extensive interviews, Tucker creates a moving tapestry to reveal the complex array of humanity expressed within the many stages involved; disregard, disorientation, fear, upheaval, possibility, frailty, conquest, resolution and the perpetual question of recurrence. The work makes use of Esoteric Dance Projects methodical techniques and deep connection to musicality to showcase the regimented nature of the healthcare process and the impact on an individual. The nuance of movement blends the clinical elements of the disease process with the inherently emotional aspects of each characters story. Involuntary Metamorphosis of Being uses portions of the researched interviews as a part of the soundscape to bring a uniquely personal vision of the process.
