Midnight & Mudd is the musical partnership formed by Edmund Mudd Rustin and David Midnight Mercer. Sifting through the ever changing sonic landscapes of independent rock music they found a common ground, an intersection of styles that blend rich harmonies, bold melodies, high velocity heavy guitar tone and an avalanche of massive grand pianos steeped with organs and mind-bending synthesizers. Described by one listener as if THE BAND hung out at biker bars. They draw inspiration from the extensive catalogue of popular and classical music, striving to emulate the classics while innovating the conventions.
They released their self-titled, debut album Midnight & Mudd in the summer of 2015, followed by two music videos and a handful of winter shows throughout the Twin Cities. They play as a four piece, Midnight on keys and vocals, Mudd on guitar and vocals, Max Kirkeide on bass and Andy Mark on the drums. Their live show features exaggerated versions of their songs, with extended bridges, dramatic crescendos, and interludes performed under a galaxy of colorful lights and fog. As artists they bring together contrasting elements, blues guitar and classical piano, rock & roll bravado and jazz restraint, or in this case a mind-melting, psychedelic rock show set in a quiet, intimate theater.
