Free talk, taking place in Newcastle Castle's Black Gate, as part of Siege & Conquest: Time Travel Weekend.
This event is FREE however you must also purchase a standard admission ticket from Newcastle Castle on the day to be permitted entry (see times & costs here).
Explore the turbulent final years of the 11th Century, as one of our highly knowledgable team gives a fascinating talk about the First Crusade. This holy war was unprecedented in scale and resulted in a cycle of warfare that lasted throughout the medieval period.
This talk will discuss the thought behind crusade, what caused it, and the key conflicts that resulted with the foundation of the Crusader States. We will also encounter key figures such as Robert II of Normandy, the founder of the castle in Newcastle, and evaluate their impact upon the crusade.
Join us to get a glimpse of the campaign that shook the medieval world and permanently altered the political landscape of the Middle East.
This talk takes place in the Black Gate, which is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
