The Nutcracker - SUNDAY MATINEE - with Ballet Workshop
Back by popular demand! Ballet Workshops all-original staging of The Nutcracker returns as the family event of the holiday, bringing together over 150 local ballet students, theatre performers, and guest dance artists from Pacific Northwest Ballet.
Set in the great depression of Clallam County in 1895, get ready to follow the adventure of young Marie and her brother, Frank, who are given a magical gift of a Nutcracker by their wealthy godfather, business tycoon Gregers M. Lauridsen, at their familys Christmas Eve barn dance. The curtain opens on the foothills of Hurricane Ridge, where Marie, Frank and the farm boy, James, are preparing for the arrival of their guests at their family estate. Friends begin to arrive from Forks, Dungeness and Elwha, bringing seasonal house-warming gifts from their baking ovens, fishing boats, and hunting trips. When the festivities come to an end, Marie and Frank are taken on a journey with the Nutcracker Prince, as they dream of a fairytale land where Sugar Plums dance and lavender sparkles in every field.
Set to Tchaikovskys traditional Nutcracker score, this home-grown production will capture your heart as it pays tribute to the rich history of life on the Peninsula at the turn of the Civil War era. Highly praised by Port Angeles critics and audiences for its comedic delight, locally crafted costumes, and beautifully hand-painted backdrops of the Olympic Mountains, this is a holiday evening you will want to enjoy with your entire family, young and old, for years to come.
