Original Datura, along with Palestine Solidarity Campaign, CoResist and friends invite you to experience art in movement and raise funds for the excellent work carried out by Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Featuring beautiful and unique performances from dancers from across the UK, including Bristols own Original Datura, this special evening of full-bodied magic will take you through universal themes of fusion and melding, via the medium of Fusion belly dance, Improvisation Tribal Style, Hip-hop fusion and Dark fusion belly dance. This show, featuring a superb score, will be a stirring opportunity to experience the transformational, overcoming power of dance.
The conflict and hostility in the Palestinians region has been going on for almost half a century, and generations have now grown up in its shadow. The belly dance arts, originating in the tribal, travelling communities of the Middle East and surrounds, are here revitalised, creating forms without borders, a dynamic fusion without spoken language to divide and stagnate. The strange choice between peacefulness and necessary conflict, the balance of recognition and mutual space, are all themes that these dancers work into their unusual craft.
There will be two separate sets of approx 40 minutes each, with an interval between to gather, refresh and chat. Come, dress down, in gown, or in your tribal best to show solidarity with our cousins elsewhere!
The show is suitable for adults, children with a budding interest in the outside world, and anyone who wants to support MAP a medical charity which works to support the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. There will be drinks, cakes and snacks for sale, proceeds of which will go to MAP
