Broadway Chamber Players - "Theatrical Miniatures"
Join BCP as we show off our theatrical roots by performing two incredible works that were inspired by and for the performance stage. Both chamber works were commissioned for small ballet troupes.
Sergei Prokofiev's work, Quintet Op. 39, was comprised from a larger ballet score, "Trapeze" - also for only 5 musicians. Unfortunately the original score was just too difficult for the Parisian "Trapeze" dancers, which forced Prokofiev to reduce it to the lively and circus-like score of the Quintet Op. 39. In the end, Prokofiev created an imaginative and complex work that perfectly illustrates Prokofiev's creative genius, versatility, and dramatic talents.
The concert concludes with Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring"- composed for the famous Martha Graham Dance Company. As we conclude our nation's presidential election this November, there could be no more fitting musical work to capture the essence of an ideal America - full of hope, optimism, and strength.
Please come and enjoy these theatrical works performed by New York's theatrical masters - the incredible musicians of Broadway!
