Anne of Green Gables
PORTAL PLAYERS DRAMATIC SOCIETY AND THE STAGES YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM PROUDLY PRESENT:
An adaption of "Anne of Green Gables", adapted by Wendy Karpuik and directed by Teresa Drew ~ Performed by the students of the STAGES Youth Theatre Advanced Company One
Siblings Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert have decided to adopt an orphan boy to help at their Green Gables farm on Prince Edward Island. Instead of the expected adoptee, Mathew is met at the train station by a chatty, redheaded, and freckled girl by the name of Anne. As she makes friends and grows roots at Green Gables, Anne finds herself getting teased for her red hair and freckles while she attends school. She learns to stick up for herself, even if she sometimes loses her temper. This classic Canadian tale of Anne's experiences and growth as a student and then teacher is lovingly retold in this unique and original production.
The STAGES Youth Theatre Advanced Company One class is comprised of 12 youth, ages 14 to 16. The students take on all aspects of the production, supported by adult mentors.
This production will be Portal Players' entry in the 2017 North Island Zone Drama Festival in Courtenay on Monday, May 15 at the Sid Williams Theatre.
