Tasting Tuscany
6 nights, 5 days exploring Tuscany peasant food, hunting truffles with truffle-sniffing dogs, learning to make pizza, pasta, bruschetta, tiramisu, and gelato. And, all the while seeing and being surrounded by the beautiful Renaissance artistry and architecture of Florence. Monday. Learn about regional specialties and traditions during full day Tuscan cooking class. Sip wine, eat a feast and enjoy the views of this hilltop villa --- kitchen garden, olive grove and distant purple mountains.
Tuesday. Experience the peace of the Boboli gardens and Pitti Palace, former home of Florence's uncrowned royalty,d'Medici dynasty. Free time to explore the South Bank "Oltrarno District" and peek into shops where artisans continue traditions of Renaissance craftsman. Often missed by tourists, this peaceful time capsule district is designated a UNESCO World Heritage site,
Wednesday. Hunt your own truffles and learn how to serve up...AND EAT...a truffle feast. Countryside luxury roundtrip in a Mercedes van with private driver.
Thursday. Renaissance art immersion day starting with Michelangelo's magnificent statue of David at Galleria dell'Accademia, which also offers a pantheon of great Italian painters. At our next museum, Palazzo del Bargello, the building is as fascinating as the exquisite collection of Renaissance sculpture. A 13th-century prison, the pleasant severity of courtyards, balconies, and massive stone walls offer a counterpoint to the bronze and marble masterpieces.
Friday Our Country day begins with hotel pickup by private driver and luxury Mercedes van. Following the Sienna Duomo tour with its mosaics pavement masterpieces, we motor through the Tuscany countryside to 12th century San Gimignano. Called the "Manhattan of the Middle Ages", we'll explore this walled city and towers ..perhaps some shopping and wine sipping. Our final destination is a small production family owned vineyard. We'll sample reserve wines and experience specialty dishes of the region, just steps from the ancient gnarled vines, heavy with fall's bounty of grapes.

Hi, I am so glad you are interested in Tasting Tuscany. Plan to fly into Pisa then jump on the bus to Florence. The bus leaves from right outside the airport. There are spaces still available but the tour is limited to 10 to keep it intimate. If you'd like more information, please telephone your host, Sherry Crowell at 612-581-7662. Ciao! |
