Now your asking yourself, "WOW, but who are the Lead trainers?" We have 3 World Famous (well, we think so) trainers coming this year!
Pia Mess, Smarty Pants & Teflon Donna along with some very talented coaches from our Great Lakes region too!
Pia's Bio: Equally skilled as a jammer, pivot and blocker, Pia Mess has received multiple awards from all three leagues that she has skated for in her career. She is known throughout the derby community as one of the most strategically-minded players to ever strap on skates. Pia is a member of the prestigious 2012 Atom Wheels All-Stars, and is sponsored by Atom Wheels. She is one of the few skaters to be named to both the 2011 and 2012 Atom Wheels All-Stars teams. Pia was also named the WFTDA Featured Skater of the Month for March 2011. The story of Pia Mess was featured on the original Canadian Broadcast Television Series, "TV Made Me Do It". Pia also appeared in the acclaimed documentary feature film, "Blood On The Flat Track: The Rise Of The Rat City Rollergirls".
Smarty Pants Bio: Nadia Kean started skating as Smarty Pants in her hometown of Austin, Texas for the banked track league TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls in 2003. In 2011 Kean started skating with the flat track league Texas Rollergirls. In 2011 Kean skated with the Texecutioners when they took 3rd Place at WFTDA Championships and Team USA when they took 1st Place at the World Cup. Kean is the owner of Get Smarty Coaching, a derby training and consulting firm. During sessions she takes a unique approach to coaching, preferring to focus on the intricacy of each league or skater's unique style. As a trainer she is sensitive to the needs of the athlete and well aware of the process of learning. Kean offers an extensive background in both banked track and flat track derby and enjoys the opportunity to learn more about the sport each time she steps on the track. This pursuit of knowledge keeps Kean flexible in what she has taught others in the sport and is reflected in the innovative sessions she creates.
Teflon Donna's Bio: Teflon Donna began skating with the Carolina Rollergirls in 2004, except for the fact that she could barely skate! After only a few short months of persistent training and determination, she joined CRG in its first expo bout and continued improving and excelling within CRG until 2007. At this time, Teflon moved to Philadelphia and joined the Philly Rollergirls. Skating and captaining (on and off) as a Heavy Metal Hooker and a Philly Liberty Belle for the past six seasons, she has become one of the most well-known athletes in the derby community. Teflon's passion for learning every aspect of skating and the sport of derby itself is contagious, and she loves helping other derby athletes achieve their highest potential.
