FEMINA-X ARTE Y PASION CONCERT
press release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Arte y Pasión Phone: (210) 241-277114 October 2016
Femina-X and Arte y Pasión, in conjunction with Brick at Blue Star, with support by the Artist Foundation of San Antonio and the Department of Cultural and Creative Development, present a Multimedia Concert Oct 27 8 p.m. at the Brick at Blue Star. The project is an interdisciplinary collaboration spearheaded by Artist Foundation Award Winners Daniela Riojas and Tamara Adira, juxtaposing New Alternative Music with Spanish and modern dance. Femina-X is an alternative, Latin band from San Antonio comprised of members Daniela Riojas (vox), Alex Scheel (guitar), Jeff Palacios (bass), Darian Thomas (violin), and Jai Roots (drums). Femina-X identifies as "New Alternative" and creates unconventional fusions with electronic beats, samples, synths, and live instruments. They draw musical influence from progressive tribal and ethnic dance, hip-hop, jungle, Caribbean, industrial, punk, and drum and bass. Daniela's chameleon voice has the range to both coo and siren, lull and frighten, always reaching from a place of passion, imagination, and child-like playfulness. Her vision, melody, and lyrics construct the world within each song, pulling from her ability to narrate and share the deeply personal with an edge of fantasy. Femina-X has performed at the historic Arneson River Theater, The Tobin Center for Performing Arts, and Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival. They received The San Antonio Currents Critics Choice for the Music Awards 2014, Top 3 Best Electronic Bands in 2015, have been featured in Vice Colombia and Remezcla, and are currently represented by TIMEWHEEL record label. Arte y Pasión, under artistic direction by Tamara Adira, is an award-winning San Antonio based company comprised of Independent Artists accomplished in their own right, also known for being among the most contemporary of Spanish dance companies in the United States. The Companys mission is to share and promote the authentic art of flamenco, while exploring evolution and specific subject matter. Such dancers perform with Arte y Pasión as Rochelle Banuet and Artist Foundation Award Winner Stephan Gaeth. Arte y Pasión has performed at such venues as the historic Carver Jo Long Theater, the Arneson River Theater, for the San Antonio Artist Foundation, and at the McNay Museum for San Antonio Currents Best of San Antonio. They have won such awards as the San Antonio Artist Foundation Award for Original Choreography, Original Theatrical Production, and Original Costume Design. Always remembering the masters of flamenco, Adira keeps a keen eye to the future. Bridging both the traditional and the new school, Adira proves to be one of the most creative visions in the South Texas flamenco scene. The Rivard Report The Femina-X -- Arte y Pasión Concert will appear Thursday Oct 27 8 p.m. at the Brick at Blue Star Arts Complex, 108 Blue Star, $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
