WE ARE LEGION: THE STORY OF THE HACKTIVISTS (OAKUFF 2012)
WE ARE LEGION: STORY OF THE HACKTIVISTS (93 mins) Director Brian Knappenberger in person "We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists" is a documentary that takes us inside the world of Anonymous, the radical "hacktivist" collective that has redefined civil disobedience for the digital age. For those who don't already know, "hacktivism" is the use of computers to promote political protest. Anonymous is the hacktivist group credited with attacks on the FBI, the Justice Department, the Motion Picture Association of America, among many others in both the corporate and government sectors with attacks usually following legislation or actions that prohibit freedom of the internet or other humanitarian abuses. WE ARE LEGION explores the historical roots of early hacktivist groups like Cult of the Dead Cow and Electronic Disturbance Theater and then follows Anonymous from 4chan to a full-blown movement with a global reach, one of the most transformative of our time.
