The Himmel Award and Lecture will take place on Sunday, December 4, 2016, 5 PM. The event will start with conversation between the Museum's Executive Director Darsie Alexander and Julie Taymor. An optional VIP wine reception and private dinner with the awardee will follow.

Julie Taymor: American director of theater, opera, and film, Julie Taymor is best known for directing the stage musical, "The Lion King," for which she became the first woman to win the Tony Award for directing a musical, in addition to a Tony Award for Original Costume. Her film credits include "Titus" starring Anthony Hopkins; "Frida" starring Salma Hayek; "Across the Universe"; and "The Tempest" starring Helen Mirren. She is a recipient of the 1991 MacArthur Genius Fellowship and a 2015 inductee into the Theater Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement in the American Theater. Fans are eagerly awaiting her upcoming revival of "M Butterfly" on Broadway.
The Himmel Award: The Katonah Museum of Art Himmel Award and Lecture is an annual event in recognition of creators, conceivers, radical thinkers and risk-takers that provoke new thinking in the arts and design. The Award is named in honor of Betty Himmel, who was instrumental in defining the direction and mission of the Katonah Museum of Art and has served as an arts advocate and community leader for many years.
