Jazz Dreams II: A documentary film and live Q&A with drummer Jason Marsalis and filmmaker Geoffrey Poister
This engaging documentary and winner of the 2012 Telly Award includes features with Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsallis and the late Gordon Parks. In addition to Jason Marsalis, the film follows the careers of Grammy Award winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield and jazz pianist Courtney Bryan. This film is bursting with music and celebrates the ongoing contributions of young African American musicians to the genre and to the music scene in New Orleans.
The Film will be shown beginning at 5PM in the Jazz Heritage Center's Media and Education Theater at 1330 Fillmore Street. IT will be followed by a Question and Answer session with Jason Marsalis, one of the stars of the documentary, and filmmaker Geoffrey Poister.
Please purchase your $15 ticket for the documentary here and now, as seating is limited and we expect a sold-out evening.
The Jazz Heritage Center (JHC) is presenting this film and conversation in partnership with the San Francisco Black Film Festival and Yoshi's San Francisco. Mr. Marsalis will perform at Yoshi's at 8pm after our event. If you display a paid Yoshi's ticket for the 8 or 10pm show on September 1, you will receive a $3 refund as you enter our theater at 5pm.
