Beyond the Myth Detroit Michigan
The Buster Foundation is happy to be hosting two screenings of Beyond the Myth: A Story of Breed Discrimination in America on Wednesday Sept. 12th!
The Buster Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and re-homing pit bulls and bully breed mixes. Through decades of cruelty, unethical breeding and irresponsible ownership, a once beloved family dog has now found itself the victim of discrimination and abuse, and a source of misdirected public fear. We believe that every dog is an individual, deserving of a loving home, proper care, and a fair shake, regardless of breed. Through our efforts, we hope to work towards a better educated and more compassionate public.
Beyond the Myth is about dog breeds commonly referred to as"pit bulls" and those who love these breeds. Viewers are taken on a journey to four U.S. cities where Breed Specific Legislation focusing on "pit bulls" has profoundly impacted people and animals: Denver, Miami, Cincinnati, and San Francisco.
The documentary intelligently explores the contributing factors behind the public's generalized fear of "pit bulls", and examines the conflict existing between advocates and opponents of breed discriminatory laws, commonly referred to as breed bans.
It investigates the myths associated with these breeds, challenges the idea that they are inherently vicious, presents eye-opening research regarding the media's role in influencing people's opinion on dog attacks.
