The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by Bertolt Brecht
Greed, crime and the Great Depression are taking their toll on the Green Grocer trade in Chicago. The Cauliflower Trust is doing its best to bailout failing markets and control restless workers, but to no avail. Shots are fired. Blazes break out. Fear spreads in the streets. Who will come to the rescue? Who will the people turn to for protection? Enter Arturo Ui - A 'humble Bronxer' bent on world domination. Modeled after the characters of Al Capone and Adolf Hilter, Ui and his henchmen will seize power by any means necessary. Set against the gritty backdrop of 1930s Chicago, the GNS Drama Department's production of 'The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui' is a dazzling spectacle of music, violence and comedy. Audience Advisory: this play contains gunshots, the use of non-toxic water-based fog, and some profane language. Words like H3LL, g@dd@m, and @$$ are used with limited frequency - they are mobsters in Chicago after all...
