Steven Brams and Melissa Schwartzberg on Why and How We Vote
We regard voting as a sacred right, and disenfranchisement as a great injustice. But U.S. voter turnout is mediocre by international standards; many seem to think that voting isn't worth the time. This raises several questions. Why vote? How can we improve the voting system? What does it even mean to improve a voting system? In two short talks, Steven Brams (a mathematician and philosopher at New York University) and Melissa Schwartzberg (political philosopher and historian of ideas at NYU) will present their work on these questions.
