Who's Afraid of Edward Albee?
Four male actors are backstage, in an Equity-waiver production of Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, defying the playwright's edict that the indelible characters never be portrayed by an all-male cast. Kearns toys with many of Albee's thematic tropes as the men engage in offstage antics that of mirror those of their onstage counterparts. Of the 1999 premier, the Los Angles Times said: This sprawling exercise in excess is consistently fascinating, as watchable as a train wreck and as feverishly histrionic as a Joan Crawford film festival. The Staged Reading, directed by Mark Bringelson and starring Kearns, will benefit Moon Mile Run, a production company that dedicates itself to nurturing voices of the marginalized and the maligned; giving voice to swaths of humanity that have been silenced. Of the 20th Century outing, the Times confirmed that "the play addresses profound issues of gay self-loathing and loneliness.
