MEHNDI 101
The Beginner's Workshop serves as both a theoretical and practical exploration mehndi traditions observed in markets and temples of Northern India. Participants in this course will acquire a solid foundation in Indian mehndi application and design. By the end of this course, students will be able to do the following:
Choose between safe and unsafe "henna"
Make an effective henna paste
Make and use two most popular types of henna applicators
Achieve and maintain a dark long-lasting stain
Identify common motifs in Indian henna design
Construct simple original henna designs
Each student will receive a complementary kit with the following items:
1 "practice" cone with inactive henna
1 vial of tea tree oil
1 single use packet of pre-tested henna powder
Mangala Bühler-Rose is a professional mehndi artist born, bred, and based in NYC.
Mangala began studying yoga and philosophy in 1992, igniting a love affair with art forms of India's bhakti traditions, including sanjhi paper cutting, rangoli flour design, Odissi dance, and mehndi traditions of Northern India.
Since then, Mangala has lived, studied and served in ashrams throughout India and the United States. She harmonizes fruits of these experiences with a background in social work and education to yield an uplifting, creative, accessible, and pleasing experience for her students and clients.
Mangala Bühler-Rose is certified by ICNHA (International Certification for Henna Arts).
