Mame presented by The Arts at Angeloria's, LLC
It's the 50th anniversary of this award winning, family friendly classic that is sure to offer just enough Christmas to get you in the holiday spirit! Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death! That's the motto of Mame Dennis, one of musical theatres all-time greatest heroines, in this brassy, tuneful, hilarious and touching adaptation of Patrick Denniss bestseller, Auntie Mame. Jerry Herman's celebrated score includes the rousing title number, plus Open a New Window, If He Walked into My Life, We Need a Little Christmas, Bosom Buddies and That's How Young I Feel. With spirit, humor, class and wit, MAME is sure to thrill. This delightful musical centers on bonds not easily broken and love lifting the human spirit. What better story for the holidays than one that showcases the true meaning of family, no matter how they may have been brought together? Mame Dennis, with all her fun-loving, wealthy eccentricities, flair for life, and razor-sharp wit finds her life suddenly changed when she becomes the guardian of her late brother's only child, Patrick Dennis. The relevance of Mame today can be found in the simple story line. From the stock market crash of 1929 and how the characters weather the ensuing economic storm, to discrimination of single mothers there are socially conscious themes running throughout. Mame has just what is needed to not only get into the holiday spirit, but to also have a chance to reflect on where we have come from, and how we can continue to change. Focusing on giving over the commercialization is a perfect message for the entire family as we move into the holiday season!
