Los Angeles Pierce College Theatres 2016-2017 Season will conclude in May with the eight-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical, Hairsray, with book by Mark ODonnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Performances begin Friday, May 5 and continue through Sunday, May 14 in the LAPC Performing Arts Mainstage. It's Baltimore, 1962. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. Tracy's audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for integration. But can she win equality and Link's heart without denting her do? LAPC Theatres creative team is led by director Shaheen Vaaz, with choreography by Brian Moe and vocal direction by Dr. Garineh Avakian-Akkus. Dr. Wendy Mazon conducts the Pierce College Orchestra. The cast features principals Maurice Alpharicio, Justine Brandy, Leah Foster, Cassandra Godinez, Jordan Haddad, Elyse Hamilton, Michelle Johnson, Eli Korio, Timothy Kranz, Spencer Sharp, Scarlet Spencer and Tyler Stouffer. The ensemble includes Trevor Alkazian, Avita Broukhim, Shanelle Brown, Chris DePiazza, Allegra Edelnant, Noah Gephart-Canada, Shana Gitterman, Amy Hagaman, Benz Marston, Shyla McCall, Demyra Payne, Jahla Pope, Roger Ritenour,Alexis Treese, Darnel Young and Bryson Wesley. LAPC Theatres production features scenic design by Gene Putnam, costume design by Eileen Gizienski, wig design by Byron Batista, lighting design by Michael Gend and sound design by Edward Salas. Laurien Allmon is the stage manager. Hairspray will open in the Performing Arts Mainstage on the Pierce College campus on Friday, May 5 and continue through Sunday, May 14. Performances times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are priced at $15 for students, $20 for seniors and $25 for general admission. Free parking is conveniently located in parking lot #6 on the Pierce College campus (6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills, CA, 91371), adjacent to the Performing Arts Center.
