Erato Ensemble presents The Living Ocean
Canada is a maritime nation, with the longest coastline in the world bordering three oceans. Each day that we are alive, we literally live and breathe the ocean. It doesn't matter where you live or what you do. If you are presently alive on the planet Earth, your life is inextricably intertwined with the ocean.
Erato is proud to partner with Living Oceans Society on this program of music inspired by the Sea. Living Oceans is a B.C. non-profit society working to ensure Healthy Oceans, Healthy Communities. Founded in the tiny fishing village of Sointula off Vancouver Islands northeast coast, Living Oceans seeks solutions that enable us to use the oceans without using them up. The group has worked annually since 2008 to remove plastic marine debris from North Island beaches and this year, co-ordinated the removal of an estimated 40 tonnes of debris collected by groups all along the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
As this is our Season-Opening concert, we decided to make it extra special. There will be Pre-show presentations by Living Oceans Society and a discussion with Composer Glenn Sutherland and Poet Susan Hughson about their new work being premiered. There will also be a silent auction in the lobby. And of course drinks and snacks at the bar!
Pre-Show events begin at 7:00pm. Concert starts at 8:00pm.
