SAVIOURS RIDE THE SUN the MARSUPIALS DOORS: 8 PM / SHOW: 9 PM $8 IN ADVANCE / $10 DAY OF SHOW
SAVIOURS: Formed in 2004, Saviours are the end product of a "vision-quest" by guitarist/vocalist Austin Barber and drummer Scott Batiste. An ipecac reaction to the sorry state of heavy music, they aimed to assemble an epically heavy, crushingly loud band that would reinvigorate their love for excessive volume. The band's home base of Oakland, long since a hotbed for landmark metal and crust bands such as El Dopa, Neurosis, and High on Fire, provided the decay and terror necessary to fuel such an effort. Inspired by '70s doom, NWOBHM, power metal and "˜90s black metal, as well as that which informed West Coast hardcore punk and skate culture (think Black Flag and groups like BL'AST! and Poison Idea), Saviours fortify the positions originally suggested on their debut EP Warship and first album Crucifire with Into Abaddon, its punishing riffage and Barber's venomous lyrics leading the charge. Rounded out by Drunk Horse bassist Cyrus Comiskey and D. Tyler Morris on second guitar, Saviours provoke a violent response to all in metal that does not ring true.
RIDE THE SUN: Ride the Sun started in the summer of 2007. Lydell moved from Minnesota (Countach/Red Desert) to join the band 12 Gauge Reply which quickly disbanded after one gig. Lydell and Kip quickly formed (RTS). Greg Mason (Leather Nun) was the final missing link. With a few older tunes coupled with new material, RTS is well on its way carving out a heavy sound mixed with influences of old 70's rock, desert fuzz and doom. With the recent addition of Dominic replacing Greg and the addition of Dan Frick on guitars/vocals..... RTS expects everything to get even better. Kip and Dominic have left the band and Jason is now on drums and Mark on bass and ready for 2012.
the MARSUPIALS: Features Jimmy Armbrust from Rats Eyes and gives a deep plodding groove ridden journey through the desert laced with Mescaline. 3 thumbs up. darrin lee: born in the qinghai province of china in the 1940s, he quickly became a target of the government for writing several anti communist manifestos. seeking political asylum in england, where he became friends with a richard starkey, he was introduced to drums, and eventually found himself in southern California. dtx: dtx's life began in utter boredom: he was carried an extra six months in his mother's womb. promising to never be a prisoner of such ennui ever again, he quickly rose to the top by opening successful honky tonk bars all over america's midwest. in his spare time, he paints. and broods. david robles: one of the last mayans. it was his lineage who crafted the calendars of yore for the mayan rulers. these days, he plays guitar, and knows all the answers except one. jimmy james: born in the late 1500s, jimmy was the right hand man to the le roi soleil, france's king louis the xiv. in one swift unfortunate move involving one of the king's favourite courtesans, he became an enemy of the court, and went into hiding. upon the discovery of a wormhole teleporting him to 1980s nebraska, he was able to make a clean escape, and etch out a new life playing bass and slinging drinks.
