Elective: Use your words!
Everybody would love to improvise using beautiful, elegant language, but sometimes it can seem like it is the enemy of the emotion and relationship-based play that is at the centre of great improvised theatre. It doesn't have to be that way. Language can be both a way to communicate and deepen the emotion in the scene, leading to the organic, discovered way of playing where emotion and language compliment each other. In this day-long course, you will look at a variety of linguistic techniques which will help to bridge the gap between the head and the heart, using elegant and sophisticated langauge to communicate the most profound and troubling emotions. You will learn to be more expressive and precise without language without getting stuck in your head. Techniques involved include: Metaphor and imagery Alteration and assonance Wordplay Listing and pattern formation Repetition Repetition
