Concert/Ceilidh featuring Troy MacGillivray and Barbara MacDonald Magone
Come to MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. in Van Nuys, CA (in the Dart Room) for an evening of foot-stomping fun in the Cape Breton tradition with Troy and Barbara. Troy is a celebrated fiddler and pianist who hails from Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Canada, where his family are acknowledged as Gaelic tradition-bearers. He can boast a clutch of honours including the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, which he was awarded for his contribution to Canadian culture, as well as East Coast Music Awards for best album of the year.
Troy will be joined by Barbara MacDonald Magone on piano. Although born in Detroit, Barbara, the daughter of the late John A. MacDonald, a Cape Breton fiddler and founder of the Five MacDonald Fiddlers, was raised among transplanted Cape Bretoners and absorbed the music at an early age from her father, the local community, and visiting Cape Breton musicians. She spent childhood summers on Cape Breton Island and played with many of the Island's most noted fiddlers. Barbara has recorded albums with many of the great fiddlers admired today in both the Scottish and Cape Breton traditions. She is also one of the faculty at Alasdair Fraser's Valley of the Moon Fiddle Camp.
