The Funky Monks featuring Catfish Hodge, Jono Manson, Chris Ishee, Mark Clark & Justin Bransford
The Funky Monks to debut at the Legal Tender

This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear this talented group of musicians, debuting as the Funky Monks, perform full throated boogie and blues music featuring Catfish Hodge. Catfish, our current neighbor in Eldorado, is preparing to move back to Virginia. The Funky Monks are hard at work in rehearsal to make this a boogie night to remember!

The Funky Monks consist of:

Catfish Hodge has been called an "American folk blues hero" and has been a mainstay on the American Blues music scene for four decades now! He has twenty four albums to his credit, comprised almost totally of original material. "Catfish on stage is like a twelve gauge shot gun of emotion going off!" - Rolling Stone Magazine. Santa Feans who have heard Catfish in one of his solo performances know that he can fill a room by himself. With this group of stellar musicians, the Dance Hall will be a 'rockin!

Jono Manson is a prolific singer/songwriter and seasoned performer, with a long track record that includes major-label releases as both recording artist and producer and extensive touring in the USA and Europe. During 2011 he toured extensively throughout the continental United States as a solo artist and as a member of John Popper and the Duskray Troubadours. Manson also did two European tours in 2011. Jono has performed in Santa Fe in acoustic settings as well as rocking the Plaza Bandstand.  Jono, the winner of the 2011 NM Music Award for "Producer of the Year", is heading the Funky Monks rehearsals in his Kitchen Sink recording studio.

Mark Clark has been a professional musician since the age of 12. Raised in Santa Fe, he is the primary percussion/drum instructor at College of Santa Fe and is a guest clinician and endorser for Zildjian, Vic Firth, Aquarian and LP. Mark has had the opportunity to play a wide variety of musical styles from artists like Bo Diddley, Taj Mahal, Bob Weir, Noel Redding, Ottmar Liebert, Kip Winger and Cat Stevens, to locally with groups like Hillary Smith, Manzanares, Sean Healen, Jono Manson. Mark studied at Berklee College of Music and the Los Angeles Jazz Workshop and also holds teaching positions at Northern New Mexico Music, Santa Fe Indian School, Desert Academy and Humming Bird Music Camp. Mark has been voted best drummer in SFR's Best of Santa Fe several years in a row.

Chris Ishee, pianist and keyboardist, performs throughout the Southwest. As music director at Santa Fe Preparatory School, he is in demand as a jazz educator and clinician. Prior to moving to New Mexico in 1994, Ishee toured as keyboardist for trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, singer Engelbert Humperdinck, Latin singer Alvaro Torres, and others. In New Mexico he performed for several years with the Jono Manson Band as well as with Frank Morgan, Kenny Davern, Bud Shank, Bo Diddley, Eddie Daniels, John Popper and Blues Traveler.

Justin Bransford, recently appointed to the Santa Fe Arts Commission, is a professional bassist, pianist, and composer. Bransford attended double bass master classes with Jeff Bradetich at the University of North Texas, was a student of improvisation and composition at the College of Santa Fe, and has studied privately with Susan Birge, Mila Murray, Sharon Shaheen, Lewis Winn, Kevin Zoernig, Jeff Bradetich, Gary Willis and Bruce Dunlap. Currently a guitar instructor at Santa Fe Preparatory School and a bass instructor at Armand Hammer United World College, Justin is active in the New Mexico music community, having played with artists Chris Calloway, Chuscales, Daniel Ward, Cathy McGill, Madi Sato, Larry Mitchell, Pablo Rodarte's Dance Espana, El Yiyi, Tony Cesarano, John Rangel, "Blue" gene Tyranny, Peter Ahmal and George Whitty.
