BREAD + BONES
Dearest members of Pollys Paladar,

Thank you for reaching out to me in all of the ways you did to help me better understand where to take the supper club from here.  Our last Paladar, Al Pastor was an incredible accomplishment.  Between organizing the staff, the re-introduction of live music, the Tysa Trunk Show, working with new chefs, and making sure there was room to donate to the Standing Rock Water Protectors, it was a handful!  What over 100 of you did to make sure that it happened was incredibly humbling.  You reached out to be support staff and/or literally bought seats.  This action spoke pretty loud to me and made it clear that the supper club needs to continue.   I have taken to heart all of the feedback about the Paladar and am working diligently to find a way to realize all of the improvements that could be made to more suit the community.  The most echoed sentiment, by far, was the cost.   I just hope what is created at Pollys Paladar has value beyond the ticket price - that you can take with you for a long time to come.  The price remains the same for this month and I am also, like I said when I spoke at the last Paladar, posting only one night events from now on.  If I have enough interest, I may turn them into two nighters, but that is not something set in stone.  If I want to make the Paladar into a tool for activism, they will absolutely have to be two night events, but for now. Slow and steady wins the race.    I am proud to say that I was able to squeeze out $1000 when all was said and done for the Water Protectors at Standing Rock from our last two night Paladar.  I am also thrilled to say that I have a friend who is personally handing it to Winona LaDuke herself next week.  I am honestly, positively giddy about this.

With that, I am pleased to present to you all, our next dining event.
November 5th, 2016.
She is our 49th and shes a beauty.

Join us for a harvest celebration featuring Chefs Gracie Schatz and Alana Eckhart of Bay Area based pop-up, Bread + Bones.  Theyve been here before and theyll be here again, if I have anything to do with it.  Heres the thing, when you meet people as passionate and devoted to perfect food as these two dear hearts, you definitely say yes when they ask to cook for you again.  The encore of their previously sold out performance in the summer of 2015 happens to land in the season ripe for farmers.  By that I mean, pretty much every farmer I know is more than ready to put their dang hoes down!  Its time again to honor the workers of the land and all that they bring us.  Lets literally become the harvest.  Lets bring the gratitude and the passion with us as we dine together.  Gracie and Alana are such welcome additions to the food world.  Hand written invites, old world traditions, and classic ingredients feed their collective passion for artful food.Simply put, shock and awe filled the walls of the Paladar their first time at the helm and I guarantee nothing short of perfection this coming November.

The Bread + Bones Paladar (summer 2015) was one of the best meals that I have EVER paid for. - Ruby Turple

Gracie managedAvedano's(an all woman owned butcher shop in BernalHeights),made wine, cheese, and prosciutto in Italy, had her turn as the beloved butcher/pizza girl at Three Forks Bakery and Brewing Company, and has since added Molina restaurant (Mill Valley) and Cala (SF) to her impressive resume.  Alana worked at Glass Hostaria (aMichelin starred restaurant in Rome), delighted in being an expeditor and wine team member at The French Laundry, did time in an all women kitchen in SF called Frances, and then spent time at its sister establishment, Octavia.  They get excited about good food.  They cherish the homegrown tomato.  They understand the sanctity of organic. And they sure as heck make a mean dinner that I wouldnt miss for the world.

At this rustic infused Paladar, expect more than what you typically receive at our little Nevada City supper club.  We have roped in Kathy Frey and Ginger Lazerus of The Cult of Gemini to style out the space and they have offered to give quick tarot readings upon your arrival.  The boutique they curate in downtown Grass Valley is a treasure trove of wonder.  Walking through their unique collection of divination and self empowerment tools can very well give you a sense of peace and leave you with that awakened feeling of knowing a really good secret.  I look forward to what they will gather for the Paladar this month.  I cant think of a better time of year to have these talented women scout us through the season of the thinning veil with their craft and their visual sorcery.  On this weekend we will be in the waxing crescent moon.  It's an opportune time to work with intentions and take steps toward dreams and goals.  This can be a transformative occasion and we intend to make the best of it!  Learn how you can too, by drawing your tarot with the Geminis.

Handmade Moments, a Folk/Soul/Hip-Hop duo from my old neighborhood, Fayetteville, Arkansas, join us with their offering of melodic finesse.  I first saw Ana Horton and Joel Ludford at Hot Summer Nights (a street fair in Nevada City).  They were SO very tip-top.  I instantly knew that if I ever brought back live music to the Paladar, I would want them.  Luck would have it, they said YES!   What makes the honey Ozark stew of Handmade Moments so very nourishing, so perfectly spiced? Partake and be effortlessly guided through the wistful and deep channels of musical flavor, rich with hearty roots and fungi, vegetables home gardened and watered from the sacred well of American musics: jazz, old-time, country, blues, soul, hip-hop, rock (and it dont stop).  Glistening with insight and whimsy, long simmering with righteous compassion and beauty, Handmade Moments are a fearless all weather duo - complementary sprits of musical tightrope and magic - serving up entree to their secret river of goodness -Matthew Souzic (Full disclosure: I dont know who that guy Matthew is, but he just made them sound so delicious so, yeah, theyll be there too.) Side note: To hear their cover of Randy Newmans, Short People is to hear perfection.

Table Arrangements, this month, will feature the work of Deena Miller of Sweet Roots Farm.
Starting in 2010, her and her husband, Robbie, cultivated just over 3 acres, growing a diversity of flowers and produce. They have developed a philosophy of growing techniques and business practices that provide the local community with certified organic, high quality flowers, produce, and plant starts. They arrived at this philosophy through university education in agriculture, horticulture and community studies as well as years of hands on experience on many other farms.  Sweet Roots Farm is certified organic too. Everything they produce is grown, harvested and delivered using the National Organic Standard. Their business practices are based on the same philosophy as their growing techniques. To provide for the community while creating a sustainable income that supports the farm is of the utmost importance. Sweet Roots also works with Sierra Harvest, which is totally radical.  I am excited to see what comes of our Sweet Roots florist farmer feature at this November Paladar!  I might even let the last seating take their arrangements home*wink*
