Grand Folk Railroad in Concert at the BACCA Arts Center
BACCA NOW PRESENTING... the second in a series of concerts at the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst, NY: Grand Fok Railroad Saturday, October 15, 2016 7:30PM
The show begins with a half-hour open mic. Featured performers go on at 8PM.
With a make-every-note-count approach to performing, a vast eclectic repertoire, a questionable regard for folk music traditions, and a variety of instruments including acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, melodica, ukulele, electric and upright bass, accordion, flute and a unique suitcase drum kit, Grand Folk Railroad blurs the lines between pop, rock, folk and singer/songwriter genres. When it comes to pinning down a style and genre, the inspiring songwriting of the bands lead singer Susan Schwartz-Christian isnt easy to classify. With a big voice thats deeply rooted in old school country, you might expect honky-tonk inspired tales of love and loss. But theres an edge and a sense of sophistication that quickly become apparent as the stories and melodies in Susans finely-crafted songs reveal themselves. By combining these elements, Susan has developed a songwriting style that is unique, compelling and that transcends what listeners expect from those who wear the singer/songwriter moniker. Known for their diverse repertoire, Grand Folk Railroad will also be offering up an eclectic/eccentric mix of old school country, flower-powered forgotten favorites, 60s & 70s pop gems and one hit wonders.
A guitarist since the age of 16, Prof. Ernie Jackson has been featured in Guitar Player, Guitar World, Guitar for the Practicing Musician, and Downbeat.
