French Vegan Dinner at the Farm
On Sunday, August 12, we invite you to join us at Strub Avenue Farm for the first Urban Dinner Social in Whittier! You'll dine al fresco alongside your farmers, surrounded by the plants we harvest and cook each week.
Menu:
- Roasted Beet Napoleon with Cashew Ricotta and Red Wine Reduction (Roasted beets and squash layered with herbed cashew ricotta and crispy onion, over a wine reduction sauce)
- Shiitake "Escargots" with Crusty French Bread (Lightly seasoned mushrooms in olive oil with parsley and garlic with baguettes for the final authentic touch)
- Salade Niçoise with Farm Fresh Tomatoes and Potatoes (A rich vinaigrette with tarragon, basil, and thyme seasons baby potatoes, green beans, summer tomatoes, and Chickpea of the Sea--our favorite vegan tuna)
- Cherry Almond Tartlets with House-Made Marzipan (Rainier cherries with slivered almonds and marzipan on a pressed nut crust)

Come dine with us on Sundays! Now known as the Urban Dinner Socials, the pop-up restaurant formerly known as the Tuesday Dinners hasn't changed -- we're still vegan, organic, local, and experimental. Come check us out!
Why dinner? You'll sit down with a stranger and get up with a friend at our community table. Come dine with some of the nicest people in L.A.!
Why vegan? Our inclusive cuisine welcomes everyone. Not only is it vegan, we can make it gluten-free/soy-free/corn-free, you name it.
Why local? Supporting a neighborhood farm* means eating healthy, pure, sustainably grown food. It also means a reduced carbon footprint, increased independence for our local economy, and reduced reliance on non-local resources.
Why experimental? Vegan and raw vegan cuisine is the new Wild West for food lovers. We have the most fun pioneering and helping invent this cuisine!
*The primary produce supplier for the Urban Dinner Socials is Whittier Backyard Farms, a small start-up farm group in Whittier, CA. Produce on our menu from the farm this week includes beets, summer squash, scallions, garlic, chard, kale, celery, lemons, potatoes, tomatoes, basil, tarragon, chives, thyme, oregano, mint, and edible flowers.

Join our volunteer kitchen crew: Purchase a volunteer dinner ticket online for $5 by Saturday. Arrive at the kitchen at 4:30PM on Sunday and we'll show you what to do from there!
