Crooked Little Hearts
Artistic director Claudia Anata Hubiak presents the world premiere "Crooked Little Hearts" in an evening of dance that explores the nuances of intimacy andthe human body's reaction to connection.Together, these solos, duets, and trios reveal a commentary on the diverse nature of human relationships. They portray our need to escape from closeness, the friction inherent in partnership, and the difference between dependency and deep connectivity. Informed by Hubiak's Buddhist upbringing, Crooked Little Hearts addresses the desire for balance and mindfulness amidst chaos. The piece looks at love and longing, intimacy and vulnerability with movement that explores the "off balance" "off centered" and even "unhinged". By bringing tenderness and risk to partnered movement, this new work from The Anata Projectexposes the crooked sweetness of the human heart.
Hubiak founded The Anata Project in January of 2011, as a bi-coastal company based in New York and San Francisco. The project is based on the concept of Anata or ‘egoless’ in Sanskrit, incorporating mindful action and openness into the creative process and producing dances that are present and physical. Claudia Anata Hubiak holds a MFA in dance from NYU, at Tisch and was a founding member of Vispo Dance in San Francisco (2005-2009). Claudia’s work has been presented at The Cowell Theater, Z Space, ODC, Dance Mission Theater, The Atlas Theater, LaMama's Ellen Stewart Theater, The Wave Rising Series at John Ryan Theater, Dumbo Dance, DanceNow's Raw/Joe's Pub, and 111 Minna Gallery.
