Gender Reel Film Festival - Boston Opening Night
NOVEMBER 30 Gender Reel is a coast-to-coast traveling film and art event dedicated to enhancing the visibility of gender non-conforming, gender variant/queer and transgender people, identities and experiences. Our goal is to present narratives in film and art that push the boundaries of the gender binary system. Through this means, we hope to empower filmmakers and artists to create work reflective of this mission by providing an accessible and embracing platform where their work can be showcased.
The festival will open November 30th with a reception and then a screening of the documentary MAJOR!, about the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated Black transgender elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of color for over 40 years. Miss Major herself will be Skyping in for the Q&A after the screening!
We remain committed to making the festival completely accessible to all. To festival organizers, accessibility includes everything from maintaining a free submission process to making sure the cost to attend the event is fair and reasonable, and in some cases FREE. No one will be turned away as long as seating is still available. If you are unable to purchase a ticket but would like to attend, please contact organizers by email at genderreelboston@gmail.com and put in your subject line "Requesting a ticket."
