A Day With Wagner and Mendelssohn
Sandy Eastman is providing LLCC members with an opportunity to attend his pre-concert class and the symphony dress rehearsal for the next San Luis Obispo Symphony concert on November 10.
The San Luis Obispo Symphony offers as a gift to the community free dress rehearsals of its concerts during the afternoon (1pm-3pm) preceding the evening of the performance
On Saturday, November 10, the Symphony will be performing Wagner's Sacred Idyll, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 in A major. Opus 90 "Italian." The featured soloist will be the Israeli pianist Rina Dokshitsky.
Ms. Dokshitsky gave her first solo appearance at age thirteen with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. At age twenty-one shewon the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and subsequently made her debut recital at the 92nd Street Y and the Kennedy Center.
Ms. Dokshitsky has also collaborated extensively in chamber music ensembles at international music festivals and with renowned musicians. She is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she was a full scholarship student of Russell Sherman. As a student there, she received a Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and a distinguished Artist Diploma.
This course will be in two parts. In the morning, there will be a lecture about the composer ,about the pieces that will be played in the rehearsal, and about the soloist. In the afternoon, the class, as a group, will attend the dress rehearsal of the performance in the Christpher Coen Center of the PAC at Cal Poly.
At the dress rehearsal SLO Symphony conductor Mike Nowak will speak as he conducts, giving background information, musicology, and notes on harmony. With Mike's broad knowledge and stage presence, the dress rehearsals are fairly comprehensive.
