5th Annual Foodie-to-Farm Tour: Chautauqua- SOLD OUT!
Our farmer-led field walks, in-field sampling, and chef-prepared local-centric meals are just a few of the reasons why Feed Your Soul's annual farm tours always sell out!
In celebration of our 5th year of hosting farm tours, we have developed a special, extended day-trip to the rolling hills of Chautauqua County.
We will depart Sunday morning from a central location in Buffalo. Guests will travel to Chautauqua County where they will visit family-owned farms, a winery, and enjoy two exquisite meals prepared by some of our region's best chefs.
First we will visit a small (and we mean small) dairy farm where Rachel and Harry Kellogg raise less than a dozen cattle but create some of our region's tastiest artisan cheese and yogurt.
Then we will journey to Sherman, NY where Steve and Julie Rockcastle will welcome us to their organic farm. The Rockcastle's raise produce and free-range livestock. Guests will also tour their shiitake grove, where a variety of techniques are employed in order to raise an abundance of these flavorful mushrooms.
A local-centric lunch will be created by Chef Bruce Wieszala (from Carmelo's Ristorante in Lewiston, NY). The meal will be served on the beautiful acreage that makes up Green Heron Growers.
Guest swill board the bus for Ashville, where they'll meet a young family raises what might be the best chicken you've ever tasted!
Next up is Westfield, NY where we will stroll the vineyards of Johnson Estates, the oldest winery in New York State. We will also sample some of their wines in their lovely tasting room.
Finally, enter the Chautauqua Institution for a world-class, multi-course dinner at the hands of lauded culinarian Chef Ross Warhol. At the historic Athenaeum Hotel overlooking Lake Chautauqua, guests will experience a sumptuous meal created by one of our region's most fascinating chefs.
After this remarkable, day-long experience guests will return to the city by 9p.m.
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
*Tickets are non-refundable, but fully transferable.
*Please be forewarned that we use a standard-issue yellow school bus to avoid getting stuck in ruts, etc. We have had that happen in the past, so we now forgo the luxury of the passenger bus and use a utilitarian school bus, made to endure snow, sleet, rain, and mud.
*Be sure to give us a proper email address when ordering your tickets so that we can send you an itinerary one week before the tour. This is exceptionally important as we have no way to contact you without it.
Feed Your Soul's 2012 Foodie-to-Farm tour includes: *Transportation to and from area farms (farms are subject to change without notice) *Farmer-guided tours *Opportunity to speak with farmers and ask questions *Water and sampling along the way *Wine tasting at Johnson Estate Winery *Local-centric picnic lunch prepared by Chef Bruce Wieszala *A multi-course meal with Chef Ross Warhol at Chautauqua Institution's stunning Athenaeum Hotel *A super cool EAT LOCAL BUFFALO reusable tote bag
Please note:
*Please let us know if you require a vegetarian meal. Unfortunately, no other dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
*Foodie-to-Farm is a rain or shine event, so please dress appropriately. Sunblock and sturdy shoes are highly recommended.
*Guests are required to sign a waiver before boarding the bus.
*Due to the rigorous terrain, this tour is *not* recommended for people with mobility or medical concerns.
*Due to the nature of the tour, anyone with a frequent need to use the restroom may find this adventure daunting.
