GOLI with special guests THE LADIES and A THING LIKE THAT featuring SARAH RABDAU and PETER MOORE
Thursday 10/6 GOLI with special guests THE LADIES A THING LIKE THAT featuring SARAH RABDAU and PETER MOORE $10 advance / $12 at the door 8:30 doors / 9:00 show http://www.golimusic.com www.theladles.com www.sarahrabdau.com
Goli is Vessela Stoyanova and Valerie Thompson and they present chamber music for the modern era. Simply put, they are a duo of misfit classical musicians with an appetite for world music that has cut its teeth in rock bands, world folk ensembles, symphony orchestras and the occasional free improv outlet. Their writing wrestles with the universal subjects of death and getting laid while playing the cello and marimba. What do these two love? madly in love Tango, Bartok, and goat cheese and they are waiting to make music for you. They are more naked than naked when they wear all their clothes with just cello+marimba+voice. You will love them.
The Ladies, Katie Martucci (guitar, vocals and fiddle), Caroline Kuhn (tenor banjo and vocals) and Lucia Purpura-Pontoniere (fiddle and vocals) met this past fall at the New England Conservatory of Musics Contemporary Improvisation program. After discovering their shared love of harmony (and knitting) they decided to form a band. All three are songwriters and performers in their own right, but together they create a unique sound influenced by their backgrounds in traditional folk, jazz, Motown, and choral music. Their songs feature a combination of rich harmony, traditional acoustic instrumentation and distinctive arrangements. Recently featured in the Boston Folk Song Societys Youth Traditional Song & Tune Showcase, The Ladles are excited to develop a presence in the Boston folk scene.
A Thing Like That features veteran rock performers Sarah Rabdau and Peter Moore.
