Puget Soundtrack: Chris Cheveyo and Garrett Moore Present Mr. Blot's Academy
By the power of magic, Ada Niezgódka is transported to the fairytale land of Mr. Blot, the protagonist of Jan Brzechwas classic 1946 childrens book. Mr. Blot is like a communist Willy Wonka - a benevolent, mischievous teacher and magician rolled into one. His lessons can never be boring and are generally taught with the aid of buoyant song and dance. Ink sloshed against the walls in biology class morphs into animated foxes and boars, and the food served at the academy is colorfully painted à la the banquet scene in Hook.
In the course of his enrollment at Mr. Blots Academy, Ada learns about the miracles of the enchanted land, but also comes to know its dark secrets.
Mr. Blot's Academy is one of the few childrens movies produced in Polands last decade of communism. Censorship reviews dragged the films production out for eight years, but ultimately this colorful, fantastic, and musical film reached and resonated with its young Polish audiences.
Chris Cheveyo is a multi-instrumentalist/song-writer from San Antonio, Texas. Garrett Moore is a multi-instrumentalist with focus on percussion, from San Diego, California. Together they make improvisational music inspired by acts like Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh and Ornette Coleman. Their take on the soundtrack of Akademia pana Kleksa will have a sonic focus on the surreal set design and magic of the film using modular synthesizers and percussion.
